How Long Does a Bathroom Repipe Take?

RepipingIf you need to know how long a bathroom repipe will take you need to start by figuring out what you need done in the bathroom and figuring out how long each different thing will take. The piping itself could be done in a day, although probably will take more, but there is more to a repipe than just changing the pipes. You need to know if you have to do redo the drywall, the tiles, the toilet, and every other part of your bathroom. All of these can change how long a repipe really takes, not to mention the pipes themselves.

Changing the Pipes

The first thing to look at is the pipes themselves, how much pipe needs to be redone? What type of pipe is being replaced and what type of material is replacing that pipe. To replace the pipes you will probably have to pull up areas of the floor or the wall or both. That alone can take a day. Sometimes pipes are so old or so damaged that taking out the pipes and making them attach to new pipes can take a few days. Even if you get the pipes replaced in a day you need another day to worry about the rest of the bathroom. And before you worry about the rest of the bathroom you want to make sure the pipes are done right or you’ll be starting over again.

The Rest of the Bathroom

If you have to pull up flooring to pip you will need to make sure you have the time set aside to re-floor. This time changes depending on whether you are cutting and placing tile or rolling out linoleum, or even using wood. Often you have pipes behind your walls that need to be replaced. When this is the case you will need to allow for time to redo the drywall, retexture it, and even repaint it. So while there is no direct answer to how long a bathroom repipe will take, you should be prepared to have your bathroom out of order for anywhere from three days to a week easy.
