It’s Time to Celebrate Peace Day and to Focus on Climate Change

climatechange

Did you know that September 21st is the International Day of Peace, sometimes referred to simply as Peace Day? The United Nations created this day in 1981 with the goal of encouraging global peace and inspiring all people to work together to create a culture of peace.

Obviously, it’s an important day that we should all recognize and honour. This year the day carries extra meaning as the focus of the celebration is on climate change and the reality that combating climate change is a way to promote peace.

We want to help celebrate the day and to actively join new efforts to combat climate change. With that goal in mind, today we’ll talk about the importance of combating climate change and some air conditioning changes we can all make to do just that.

Remembering and Focusing on Social Effects

socialeffectsIt can be easy to focus only on the numbers and facts associated with climate change. However, amidst those are a number of social effects that will have an impact on the lives of millions around the world.

Included in these many effects are the movement of populations and an increased reliance on artificial climate systems.

It’s important to not overlook these changes and to not forget the major impact that climate change will have on so many people’s lives. Remembering the scope of this impact can help to inspire action and to provide important perspective as we all work together to protect the environment.

If You’re Not Already, Consider Using a Programmable Thermostat

programmablethermostatsAre you using a programmable thermostat in your home? If you’re not, there’s a good chance that you’re not using your unit as efficiently as you could be.

The result is that your system is probably working at full blast at times that you’re not even at home. By using a programmable thermostat, you can reduce your heating and cooling costs by 30% and you can ensure that you’re always using your system efficiently.

Not only will this change help you to save money, but it will also help to make your home more energy-efficient. This is a simple adjustment, so start using a programmable thermostat as soon as you can!

Celebrate With a New Tree

plantatreeIf you’re looking for a way to recognize Peace Day this year, consider doing so by planting a tree. This will be a fun way for you and your family to celebrate the day, while also making a big impact on the environment.

Trees help to absorb carbon dioxide and to improve air quality. Plus, they can provide shade and shelter to your home, making it even more efficient. So, take some time this year to plant a tree and encourage your neighbours to do the same.

We hope that you take a minute to reflect upon climate change this Peace Day and that you commit to actions to help combat it. Please implement the above tips and think of other ways that you can do your part. We will do the same. And remember, every little bit helps our air quality!
